January 24, our UMYF will assemble health kits to send to Clayton UMC as part of the NC Annual Conference's response to the earthquake in Haiti. The Kits contain the following items:
- 1 hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27")
- 1 wash cloth
- 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
- 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
- 1 bath-size bar or soap (3 oz. and up)
1 toothbrush (single brush only in original wrapper, no child-sized brushes)
1 large tube of toothpaste
- 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
If you would like to donate any of these items, please drop them off in the Reading Area by the morning of January 24.
UPDATE (January 20): The UMYF has secured a large donation of toothbrushes. Please keep this in mind as you bring items for the youth. Also, another change is that we are no longer including toothpaste in the packets, as UMCOR wants to be sure that the tubes do not expire before they get to the victims. Instead, we are asked to include $1 in each kit to offset the purchase of new tubes of toothpaste that UMCOR will distribute on-site when they hand out the kits in Haiti.
Please remember that the information given thus far has stated several times that these kits need to contain ONLY these items and nothing more, to help with getting the kits through Customs, so please restrict any donated items to the list above.
