How long have you served at Front Street UMC?

I have been the Playschool Director since 1984.

What’s your favorite thing about working here?

The people!

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you here?

I have lots of funny playschool stories, but my favorite is when one little girl bragged to another, “I can tie my shoes”, and the other little girl, in her best one-up-manship manner said, “Well, I can tie MY shoes in cursive.”

Where were you born and raised?

Asheboro, NC

Where did you go to school?

UNC-G

How many children do you have?

My husband, Larry, and I have 2 biological children, Ross and Ginny; 1 granddaughter, Sarah; and twin grandsons, Alec and Zach; plus a son-in-law, Todd. I also have about 120 new “adopted” playschool children every year that I also call mine.

Any Pets?

None at the current time

What is most important about your work at FSUMC? What drives you? What is your passion?

Children are my passion, especially seeing them learn through play.  I want each of them to leave playschool with a love of learning.

What two people have most influenced you?

Margaret Anne Biddle, Queen Paul, Shelley Lassiter, Betty Huneycutt, Leslie Peavy, Mary Ann Inabnit, Salley Bradford – math was never my strong suit.  Each of these women has changed who I am as a playschool director and as a Christian.

What are your favorite books, movies or songs?

I love children’s books.  I love so many that I can’t choose one to name.  My favorite grown-up reading-for-fun author is Dick Francis.  I like quirky feel-good movies.  One of my favorites is “Saint Ralph”.  I have eclectic musical taste.

How do you like to spend your free time?

What is free time?

If you weren’t a minister at FSUMC what would your profession be?

If I weren’t the playschool director I might be a good traffic cop, because I have had a lot of experience directing traffic.

What’s your favorite food?

Sweet potatoes

Where do you like to vacation?

Fernandina Beach, Florida – where our grandchildren (and daughter and son-in-law) are, and Asheville, where our son lives.
