How long have you served at Front Street UMC?
I have been a member at Front St since 1991.  I’ve served on a variety of work areas over the years.  Tom and I teach Sunday School in the Upper Room class.  I am a member of Circle 5 and a trained Stephen Leader.  I am so excited to be serving our church family as Coordinator of Congregational Care.
What’s your favorite thing about working here?
After working in “Corporate America” for over 33 years it is a wonderful change to be working with a group of people whose main goal is to serve and help others!  I feel it is a real blessing to be serving here.
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Augusta, Ga when my father was in the Army.  My mother is from Elon and we lived in Burlington until I was 10.  My father worked for Western Electric so we moved to Chicago and Allentown, Pa before returning to Greensboro.  I attended high school there and they went on to college at UNC-G.
Where did you go to school?
I graduated from UNC-G with a BS in Economics and Business Administration
How many children do you have?
Tom and I have a blended family of 5 children – 2 boys and 3 girls.  We also have  5 grandchildren (with another on the way) and 3 sons-in-law and 1 daughhter-in-law!
Any pets?
Not at this time.   We had a dachshund – Ginger – who is in “doggie heaven”.  Since the children are all grown, Tom and I decided to delay getting another pet for a while.
What is most important about your work at FSUMC? What drives you? What is your passion?
Probably 25 years ago when I was at Christ UMC in Greensboro, I became interested in Stephen Ministry.  At that time I was a single parent and didn’t have time to devote at that time but the seed was planted.  Dr Huggins started discussions about starting this ministry at Front St and I felt led to be trained as a Stephen Leader.  This training has been invaluable to me as I’ve started in my new role as Coordinator of Congregational Care.  Serving those who are no longer able to attend church regularly is a critical ministry.  We don’t want anyone to feel they’ve been forgotten.   I will be working to incorporate more folks into this ministry – so watch for opportunities!
What two people have most influenced you?
When Tom and I got married we were in a small group with Ann and Lane Glaze.  They chose Front Street as their church because they were looking for a church home where they could make a difference.  This really influenced how I viewed my role and responsibilities here.
What are your favorite books, movies or songs?
I enjoy reading anything by Debbie Macomber.  Her books are fun and uplifting.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I love to cook.  In the summer I enjoy making pickles, jams and jellies, and finding creative uses for our garden bounty!
If you weren’t a minister at FSUMC what would your profession be?
I would be a “professional volunteer” otherwise known as a retiree!
What’s your favorite food?
This is hard – I like just about anything!
Where do you like to vacation?
Our family has a house at Kerr Lake we lovingly refer to as “a wooden tent”.  Tom and his family built it when they were in college.  Our family loves it and we have many wonderful memories of time spent there.
