Love Our Neighbors

Read Philippians 4:4-7

As I read this scripture and consider recent events in our neighborhoods, nation and the world, I am convicted of my anxiety with the current state of affairs.  I struggle to understand the anger and even hate that we show towards each other.  We are not at peace with our neighbors.  We do not treat each other with gentleness, compassion, or love.  It feels like we don’t even try to understand those who are unlike ourselves.  Yet, we all know and profess that our Heavenly Father made us in His image.

Advent is the beginning of the Christian year.  This scripture passage from Philippians reminds us of the importance of turning our worries over to God and praying for our nation, leaders, and the world.   Let’s begin this Advent season by praying for compassion, love, and understanding for our brothers and sisters in our neighborhoods, nation, and around the world. Let’s continue this throughout the year.  When we can model God’s love for us with those we share life with, only then will we make strides toward peace in the world.

Prayer:  Father God, today I give my worries over to you.  I know you will handle them in your best way.  Please help me to love those I meet with the same love you show me, not just today – but every day.  Place a conviction in my heart to show respect and compassion to those who are different from me.  In Your Son’s Name I pray.  Amen.
