Seek the Lord

Read Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13

As we prepare our hearts for the coming of our Lord and Savior, we must resolve to seek Him.  Seeking can be described in terms of searching, as in looking for something in particular.  Some interpretations of the word “seek” add the terms “beseech” and “entreat,” which widen the understanding of seeking to include pleading and a sense of urgency.

Today’s reading reminds us that we must seek God with reverence in order to reach restoration.  Pausing regularly in the midst of our busy and often turbulent world, it is important to humble ourselves before Him.  We must turn to God’s Word for our instruction, join in God’s kingdom by working and worshipping alongside fellow believers, reach out to the lost and suffering, and be still enough to hear God speak to us as we join in God’s work.  As we grapple with the world’s daily bombardment of our lives by the ways of the world, we are then able to realize that only God is capable of making us new.  Our obedience to God is the only way.

In this time of preparation, let us urgently seek God’s guidance, so that we may restore our own love and joy the Lord and all that He offers us through a life of obedience.  God sent His Son to show us the way.  Let us prepare for His coming by doing our part to prepare our hearts and our lives to make room for His presence.  Only then will we recognize and rejoice in how His righteousness shows itself in our personal lives and in the world around us time and time again.

Prayer:  Humble our hearts and instill in us a longing to seek room for you, O Lord, that we might remember that our obedience to You is the only way to the peace that only You can provide.
