Overflowing with Hope

Read Romans 15:4-13

May the God who gives hope fill YOU with all joy and peace by YOUR believing, that YOU may abound in hope with power of Holy Spirit.

Approximately six years ago after a major illness I joined a unique group of individuals that most people would call disabled, I prefer to call amputees enabled.  After my amputations, my hope that I would ever live a normal life full of the outdoor activities with my family began to fade.  However, in great part due to my faith, the patience and compassion of my church family and the realization I was different but equal I regained my hope and found joy again.

Paul, as the 'Apostle to the nations' was used by God to preach to both the Jews and the non-Jewish nations, and teach them about Jesus and God's promises for the future. Because this was a HUGE departure from the norm for many Jews, Paul's letter to the Roman congregation of Christians, discusses the new equality between Jews and non-Jews. In it he asks for love and patience to be shown to 'brothers' who may be having problems accepting this change.

Chapter 15 is full of counsel on showing kindness, patience, 'putting up with' one another BECAUSE the belief and faith in Jesus is the thing that unites the Christian congregation.  As we all go through present day issues of inequality, verse 13 is hope that the congregation will be blessed by God with joy and peace for faithfulness on the journey.

Prayer: Dear Lord remind us that you and your word are a constant source of patience, comfort, joy and hope in our lives.  Help us to serve others as you serve us.
