COVID-19

COV-19 response

Dear Front Street Family,

In Genesis we hear part of the story, "So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good." All of God's creation is wonderful, and surely serves the purpose for which it was created. Unfortunately, we don't always appreciate or understand that purpose, and sometimes the purpose looks downright troublesome to us. Such is the case with viruses like the one that leads to the Covid19 illness. This illness has spread worldwide, and is beginning to change the way we live in community as we work to get a handle on it.

One of the important actions that the World Health Organization, the President of the United States, and even our Bishop are encouraging is creating more space between people. My understanding is that by not meeting in groups, we can help to level off (and even drop) the transmission rate of the coronavirus. As a part of this community, we want to do our part to help improve the public health situation. Unfortunately, that means temporarily suspending the meeting of groups of people. While we will miss seeing one another face-to-face, at Front Street we feel that this is one of the ways we can show our more vulnerable people that we care about them and their health. Toward that end, we have made the decision to modify the life of the church through the end of March. We will revisit this decision toward the end of the month to see if this modified schedule will need to be extended.

As I said, while we cherish our life together, through March 31 the following will be in place at Front Street:

+ There will be no gathering for church services on March 15, 22, and 29. Instead we encourage you to join us online for a Facebook Live Service of Morning Prayer. Pastor Patrick and I will offer that online experience at 11:00am on those Sundays. To participate you will simply need to sign up for a free Facebook account, and go to the following address: https://www.facebook.com/frontstreetumc . We will email an order of worship for those who would like to follow along from home.

+ There will be no Sunday School on those three Sundays for children, youth, or adults.

+ There will be no evening Youth Group for those three Sundays.

+ No choirs will meet through the end of the month.

+ There will be no Confirmation Class for those three Sundays.

+ Beginning on Friday we ask that no Church Committees meet through the end of the month. Should you have any critical business, consider handling it by email.

+ Other events like Evensong, the movie night, and the missions luncheon are canceled. If they are rescheduled we will publish those dates.

As you know, just because we are not meeting over the next few weeks, the church must continue to operate. So, we ask that you continue to support the mission and ministry of the church with your financial giving in one of the following ways.

+ Use the online banking option of the bank with which you do business to send your tithe electronically.

+ Mail your contribution to the church at PO Box 2597, Burlington, NC 27216.

+ Use the Text-to-Give service.
All you have to do is text the amount you wish to contribute to our dedicated text phone number 336-489-GIVE (4483). The amount you wish to give goes in the body of the text message. The first time you do it will take you through a short set-up process where you will designate a credit or debit card to which the amount should be charged.
Just save the phone number in your Contacts, and the next time your contribution is as easy as sending a text message. It can be done during the Morning Prayer Service on each of the next Sundays, or anytime during the week that you happen to think of it. How easy is that?!

We appreciate your understanding and your patience during this time when things are different. I ask that you make sure to visit with your friends and neighbors by telephone to ensure that they are doing okay. Keep washing those hands, and together we will get through this time of uncertainty. I look forward to when we can be together again to worship the Lord and serve in his name.

Grace and peace,
Ross
