The Love Feast

Love Feast

Dear Front Street UMC Family,
This coming Sunday, August 2nd, we will take time during worship to celebrate a Love Feast. The Love Feast, or Agape Meal, is a Christian fellowship meal begun in Moravian Church traditions that recalls the meals Jesus shared with disciples during his ministry. Through the sharing we express the fellowship and community that we enjoy as the family of Christ.
The Love Feast has often been held on occasions when the celebration of the Lord's Supper would be inappropriate—where there is no one present authorized to administer the Sacrament, when persons of different denominations are present who do not feel free to take Holy Communion together, when there is a desire for a service more informal and spontaneous than the communion ritual, or at a full meal or some other setting to which it would be difficult to adapt the Lord's Supper. As it turns out, it also serves as a healthy and robust act of worship during a pandemic when virtual worship is required at home.
To participate, you will need the following things:
• Coffee, tea, or some other preferred drink for yourself and your family.
• Bread (it can be any kind of bread you prefer in the morning: Moravian spiced buns, toast, cinnamon rolls, or biscuits)
• The order of service for Sunday, August 2nd.
• A thankful heart.
May we rejoice in the community we share at the table of Jesus Christ, even in this season that requires us to remain apart.
Grace and peace,
Front Street UMC Team
