ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
As we journey through life with the Lord, we need others with whom to share. A Sunday School class can be an essential part of our faith journey, providing us with a group of people who have similar experiences, who care for one another, and who seek God's guidance for their lives in study of the scriptures.
The BIble tells us the mission of Sunday School is "to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up..." Ephesians 4:12 NIV.
Join us each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. for Sunday School! We have eight different adult classes. Below are brief descriptions of each class with contact numbers for each. Find one you think you'll enjoy and visit one Sunday! Feel free to call the contact person from any of the classes. They will be more than happy to answer your questions!
Builders Class
Organized in 1951, this class of couples and singles is very involved in community outreach. They provide volunteers and financial support to many local mission projects, and in 1994 the class received service awards from the Community Council and from the Governor of North Carolina. They have several teachers who rotate Sundays, and they use the International Lesson Series. Builders Class meet in Room 302. For more information you may call Helen Hicklin or Fred Genaway.
Companions Class
This young adult Sunday School class is for people wishing to strengthen their walk with God and introduce Christ into the issues we deal with in our daily lives. Companions meet in Room 304.
For more information, contact Margaret Pardue.
Fannie Larkin Class
This class of senior ladies bears the name of Fannie Larkin, their former class teacher and wife of L.C. Larkin, minister of Front Street Church from 1942-1948. The class has four dedicated and qualified teachers who rotate Sundays, and they use the International Lesson Series. This class meets in Room 301 and for more information, call Mary Ruth Alexander.
Foundation Class
Originally organized in 1992, the Foundation Class consists today of couples in the thirty to fifty age range. Since many members have teaching responsibilities in Sunday School classes for children and youth, this is a very flexible class, with members coming and going throughout the year. Weekly lessons are discussion oriented and tend to focus on contemporary issues faced in daily life. The group has various social, fund-raising, and family-related functions during the year. They meet in Room 307. For more information contact Randy & Louise Cox or William Inabnit.
Fresh Word Class
This class is for mixed ages in a small group setting. The group studies the weekly lectionary passages,
seeking to
apply these scriptures to daily life. Because of their format, class members welcome people to join them occasionally or regularly. Several members share teaching responsibilities. Fresh Word meets in the Heritage Center Parlor. For more information, contact Dan Thomas or Lou Brock.
Genesis Class
Organized in 1981, the Genesis Class has several teachers from its own membership, and occasionally schedules guest teachers. This class of couples and singles seeks to provide a "jump start to faith" for its members. Topics and materials vary, but all have Bible study as the main emphasis. Genesis Class meets in Room 309. For more information contact June West or Tom Burke.

Helpers Class
This class of couples and singles uses the International Lesson Series. Four teachers share teaching responsibilities and use both lecture and discussion in their presentations. The class participates in various volunteer services - such as providing Sunday van drivers, meals for the Homeless Shelter, and coffee for Sunday School. Helpers meet in Room 402. For more information contact Rachel Vogler or Sam Morrah.
Upper Room Class
Upper Room membership includes both couples and singles. This group participates in several service projects each year and also enjoys periodic fellowship events. Many class members share teaching responsibilities, and topics and resources are selected each fall by the class and the teaching committee. Class discussions focus of Bible study and application of Christian faith in today's world. This class meets in Room 409. Please contact Jean Anderson or Tom Sineath for more information.
