Children's Ministry

It is the goal of Front Street Children’s ministry to partner with families in guiding children and equipping parents in teaching their children to grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Children’s Ministry at FSUMC

At Front Street United Methodist Church, we believe that children are important in God’s kingdom and are to be welcomed in God’s church. We are a church that values and celebrates children among us. Children have many opportunities to participate in programs and activities where they can feel God’s love and presence. We seek to offer children a loving environment that teaches the Word of God and gives them the opportunity to grow, play, and learn together as God's children.

Nursery & Childcare

Our nursery is available, free of charge, for infants through pre-k. It is staffed by loving individuals who have been trained and background checked.

The nursery is open on Sunday mornings beginning at 8 a.m. until the conclusion of the 11 a.m. worship service.

Sunday School

Sunday school is available for preschool through elementary-aged children from 9:45-10:45 each Sunday.

We use the Methodist curriculum “Celebrate Wonder” where children learn a Bible story and discuss a “wonder question”, which inspires the kids to grow deeper in their faith.

Children’s Church

Children’s Church is held during the 11 o’clock traditional service. Children begin worship in the sanctuary with their families. After the “Time with Younger Disciples”, children 4 years old through first grade depart with a Children’s Ministry staff person to Children’s Church for a Bible lesson, songs, and activities related to the lesson.

The first Sunday of every month is Family Worship Sunday and there is no Children’s Church. Children are encouraged to remain in the sanctuary and worship with their families for the worship service and receive Communion as a family.

Prayground

Our Prayground is a designated space in our Aldersgate service where families can worship together. Throughout the week families go separate ways to do their own activities, and we don’t want to ask them to be separated on Sunday mornings, so we created a place where they can worship together.

Children are spiritual and learn through modeling. When they join the adults in worship, it is more likely that they will continue coming to church as they get older. The prayground supplements the nursery that is available beginning at 8 am on Sunday mornings. In the Prayground we have books, toys, and objects that relate to the worship service.

The Prayground offers an opportunity for spiritual growth to begin at an early age. When children are present, we are whole.

Safe Sanctuaries

In order to ensure our ministries and programs for children and youth are welcoming and safe, to reduce the risk of abuse or mistreatment, and to build a culture of respect and healthy boundaries, we have implemented a Safe Sancturies policy. All staff and volunteers who serve with children and youth are background checked and have been trained in our Safe Sanctuary policy. In our nursery, Sunday School classes and Children’s Church, there will always be at least two adults in the room. View our policy here.
