Spiritual Growth

How you can join Front Street UMC as we Grow in Christ

COMMUNAL GROWTH

We were never meant to be alone (Genesis 2:18). That truth in our creation is meant to instruct us on how to engage with the world, wrestle with faith, and grow together on this journey of life. Front Street United Methodist Church has many ways to engage in communal spiritual growth, and yet we recognize that much of our lives are lived outside of church. At the same time, our faith still needs to be developed.

At The Table

This is the small group format we use at Front Street United Methodist Church. Small groups are at the core of who we are as United Methodists. John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Movement, considered small groups essential to becoming the Christians God intended us to be.

  • At Your Table is based on the At The Table  videos we do here at FSUMC.
  • The purpose of At Your Table is to encourage conversation at your dinner table, and use those conversations to point to faith. Guess what, faith happens way more outside of Sunday mornings.
  • At Your Table is intended for any type of small group: friends gathered around a meal, families wanting to talk more about faith with their kids, School groups that need a new focus, or anywhere two or three are gathered in God’s name.
  • At Your Table is built to be an easy conversation starter that anyone (regardless of faith experience) can jump into. Pick up the guide at the end of the day after work or school and you’ll be in a conversation about faith with little effort.

PERSONAL GROWTH

In the Methodist Church we believe that faith is personal but not private. We believe strongly in the efficacy of learning about and practicing your faith with other believers. At the same time, our personal relationship with God is important and worthy of investing time and energy into. Here are some resources we suggest personal devotional practices.

Spiritual Gifts Inventory

There’s a balance to personal and communal spiritual growth. We hope and pray you are actively engaged in both of these forms of growth. However, you may be brand new to this work for yourself and/or you may not have a clue where to start. That’s a perfect place to be. As you begin this spiritual growth journey the first thing you should know is YOU ARE A GIFT, and God has gifted you a way to engage in both personal and communal life. Here’s how you can start:

Take a spiritual gifts inventory.  Contact a pastor on our team to discuss what next steps you might take in your faith.  Pastor Ray—ray@frontstreetumc.org or Pastor Stephan—stephan@frontstreetumc.org.
