New Opportunities to Serve C4C

Fresh Mobile Market
We are excited to announce a new C4C ministry in a collaboration with Out of the Garden: Fresh Mobile Market. On the 3rd Wednesday of each month, we will distribute fresh food (meat, fruit & vegetables, bread etc.) to the hungry from the parking lot of Northside Presbyterian Church located at 1805 Vaughn RoadOur target audience is Eastlawn families, but anyone is welcome. This is a drive thru distribution. We need lots of volunteers to make this run smoothly.

This monthly market begins at 2:00 PM and lasts until we run out of food—usually about an hour and a half or so. Volunteers are needed to help box food, load cars, and direct traffic. Please remember to park across the street so we can keep the parking lot available for those who are receiving food. Thank you for helping to get food in the hands of the hungry!

Sign up to volunteer here.

Congregations for Children (C4C) is an initiative that was started at the North Carolina United Methodist Annual Conference in 2013. The focus of C4C is to reflect the love of Christ to our neighbors, by helping children in public schools who live in poverty. Front Street has been partnering with Eastlawn Elementary school for several years. The free and reduced lunch rate at Eastlawn is a staggering 100%, so this ministry is so important.

As you may know, the food collected from our food drives goes to our C4C (Congregations for Children) partner school Eastlawn Elementary. Historically, the food has gone to "Out of the Garden Project" in Greensboro and then back to Burlington to our local elementary school. We are trying to simplify this process by collecting, sorting, and bagging food at Front Street. From here, the food can then be taken directly to Eastlawn and straight into the classrooms. (We are sending home food for 200 children this year!)  This will allow many more opportunities for people at Front Street to participate in this ministry as it will allow opportunities to donate food or money, sort food, bag food, and distribute food. We can do this alongside one another. Watch this space for opportunities to get involved!

School Buddies
This year, we excited to share that we can now go back into the school system to volunteer! We can serve as reading buddies, math buddies, lunch buddies, etc. These kids need all of the love and support that we can give them in every way possible.

If you want to serve the children and families at Eastlawn by either volunteering in the school or helping with the backpack ministry, please contact Melissa at melissa@frontstreetumc.org.
